Good news. I’ve solved my earlier problem of being unable to use T-Mobile hotspots with Linux and its wireless support.

The problem - not for the first time - turned out to be wpa_supplicant. By using the normal wireless-tools instead, I was able to connect to the hotspot first time, acquire an IP address, and get up and running.

It sure is nice being able to boot Linux again. VMware’s a great tool, but I wasn’t enjoying the performance hit since switching back to it.
