2X provide a GPL’d NX server, based on NoMachine’s original source code. As such, it should prove a better quality server than FreeNX.

They also appear to provide the source code for a client, which could allow us to provide a working NX client on more than just 32-bit x86 (which is what we’re limited to with NoMachine’s binary-only client).

I’ve had a look at putting together source-based ebuilds for 2X’s server and client. At the moment, it’s not practical to do so. I’ve passed on a list of issues to my contact at 2X; hopefully they’ll be able to give us a hand in resolving them.

If not, we still have the option of writing ebuilds for their binary releases.

I’ve added the Free Edition (2 user license) of NoMachine’s NX Server to the Gentoo NX Overlay.

Unfortunately, it’s currently not working for me. nxnode is insisting that it needs a license key, and the one bundled w/ nxnode expired last month. I’ve dropped an email to my contact at NoMachine; hopefully I’ll have a solution before too long.

The packages for the NoMachine servers will remain in the NX overlay until I have them working.

I’ve added an ebuild for NoMachine’s NXClient v2.1 to the Gentoo NX overlay. I’ve tested it against NoMachine’s testdrive server, and against the nxserver-freenx package in the overlay, and it works for me. YMMV.
