nomachine have released v1.3.2 of their NX server and client range. NX is a solution for running X11 applications on remote machines over low bandwidth links, such as WiFi and broadband. If you\’re not convinced that NX is important, go to their website and try their TestDrive for yourself. Much of the core technology is opensourced, and they provide free licenses to open source developers on request.
(Disclaimer: I\’m just a happy NX user. I\’m not employed by NX in any way shape or form. And I paid for my license too, so there :P)
I\’m part-way through adding ebuilds for NX 1.3.2 into Portage. Fingers crossed, they should be tested and published on Thursday night.
At NoMachine\’s request, I\’ll be posting an NX on Gentoo HOWTO at the weekend.

You can now do this in your ebuilds:
webapp_server_owned ${MY_HTDOCSDIR}
webapp_config_owned ${MY_HTDOCSDIR}
and the directory that your web-based app is installed into will be owned by the user that the web server runs as, or as the user who can edit the config files.
The net-www/wordpress ebuild will benefit from this for sure.
I\’m also part-way through implementing support for installing web server configuration files that the application needs. Trac for one needs this. All being well, should be completed on Thursday.

We\’ve found that the springs in normal mattresses irritate my back injury, so it\’s out with the springs and in with a mattress made from visco-elastic. And boy is it comfortable. Rob was right - I should have done this years ago.
I haven\’t had a good night\’s sleep since the car accident. Let\’s hope this is a big step towards changing that.

… means that Newcastle won\’t be playing in the Champions\’ League next year.
:( That\’s now two years without Champions\’ League football (we lost in the qualifying stages this year). With the cash injection coming Liverpool\’s way over the summer, getting back into the Champions\’ League next season is going to be a bigger challenge than ever.
Hats off to Sir Bobby and the team for getting to the Uefa Cup semi-final. We may have won nothing in the end, but Chelsea were the only other British club to manage a European semi-final.
Here\’s to next season!

Well - credit to Dell. They called me this morning, without me having to call them first.
Unfortunately, there\’s still no solution to the problems that I\’m having with the machine. We were unable to run through all the tests that Dell wanted to do, because I didn\’t have a power supply for the laptop with me today. Dell will call again tomorrow, and we\’ll see where we go from there.
