… then I must say that I’m very happy indeed with the 256Mb model of XFX’s GeForce 5700LE. It works with the latest stable NVidia drivers (which means I’m no longer stuck with the ancient nvidia 4363 driver :), and it even works with X.org composite extension. A little bit of eye candy goes a long way

Reuben and I have spent the last week or so putting together the venue and the plan for Gentoo’s 2005 UK Meeting. Once again we’re going to be holding the event at The University of Salford, moving from the Newton Building over to University House and its conference facilities.
We’re currently putting together the full announcement - including details of how you can get involved. Keep an eye on the Gentoo Weekly News, and our (soon to launch) Gentoo Events page!

Swapped out the dead hardware for the new amd64 components, and the machine booted first time. The only problem I had was that my old kernel didn’t have SATA support enabled. One (very quick) recompile later, and I can see the replacement drive too.
I’m still trying to decide which is nicer … having a nice high-performance amd64 box, or (thanks to a video card upgrade) that I can now use the latest nvidia drivers. Mmm.

Well, the good news is that I’m now an amd32-free zone. The bad news is that this isn’t because I’ve replaced my Athlon XP chip with a nice Athlon 64.
No, the Athlon XP box is dead. I guess it overheated once too often
I’m disappointed about the timing - my amd64 fund isn’t enough yet, and with the car insurance due and Christmas just around the corner, the fund isn’t going to be topped up now until next year. Ironically, we binned two other dead XP boxes only last weekend. Now I have another trip to make to the tip.

This is a version bump for a security fix, so if you run Gallery, you’ll want to upgrade.
