I’ve started looking at getting Wordpress 1.5 into Portage. Unfortunately, it turns out that my test box’s web server setup is a mess since I moved the RAID array across to another machine. Hopefully there’ll be time tomorrow night to get things fixed so that I can get this package tested and committed.
This version finally separates out themes from the code; future upgrades should be a lot less time consuming

… on the same Gentoo box at the same time; this means that I’m going to have to add this capability to Gentoo after all (something I definitely had hoped to avoid).

… and, I must say, it’s looking a lot better than 0.2.4 (the last release that I’ve spent any significant time grappling with. It can still leave unwanted processes hanging around alas, but it’s getting much closer to the quality of NoMachine’s commercial nxserver product.
All I have to do now is see whether it works on ppc or not … and hopefully I’ll have the answer in a day or so when Gnome has built on the Pegasos box.

For anyone who’s thinking of trying the vmware-linux-tools package that I added yesterday … suspend/resume isn’t working yet. I have this working locally; hopefully I’ll be able to get this into Portage soon.

Heh … I can’t sleep, and X.Org / Gnome finally finished building, so I’ve finished up my initial cut at getting the vmware-linux-tools working for Gentoo, and committed the results to Portage.

I’ve knocked up an ebuild for VMware’s guest os tools. I’ll get the ebuild committed to portage once I’ve finished testing them.

I’ve spent the morning going through the bugs about nxserver, freenx, and nxclient. There’s a rev bump done for nxclient; that’s now in the tree. There’s a rev bump for nx-x11 (the libraries that nxserver and freenx rely on); that’s ready to go into the tree. And I’m partway through fixing up freenx-0.2.8; I’m hoping to get that done Friday night.
And we now have a new herd for dealing with these packages: nx@gentoo.org.

… until I returned home from today’s treatment with blurred vision. The obvious things like email, IRC and blogging are hard work, quickly bringing on a headache from peering too hard at the computer screen. But trying to watch TV’s not much better; try using Sky+ when you can’t really make out the words on the screen!
Gave up in the end, and retreated to a nice darkened bedroom with good old Radio 5 Live from the BBC. Here’s hoping things improve tomorrow.

We’ve been looking for a new maintainer of PEAR / PECL stuff for some time now, and I’m very pleased to say that Sebastian Bergmann has joined the team to help make our PHP support even better.
Welcome, Sebastian.

A colleague at work pointed me to this spoof advert for the Volkswagon Polo. It’s far from politically correct, but it’s just too funny to pass on.
