Very interested in the old rail line that went from Nantgarw over the old Taff's Well viaduct, past Radyr, through St.Fagons and over the old viaduct in Ely, then through Wenvoe, before getting to Barry dock.

@Hannah: I got the content control removed by popping into the shop where I bought my mobile broadband modem from. They were able to remove the content control there and then for me.

Hope that helps!

i have been a vodafone customer for 5 years now. and am seriously thinking about leaving vodafone at the moment they charge me when a phone breaks to nofault off my own, im sick off the poor service.I have the same usb broadband internet and its cheap and there is alot of usage but i try to acess websites for my wedding in 3 weeks and they deem a site that sells corsets as a plus 18 website. i have a wedding to plan for god sakes i have rang vodafone 4 times to get the content control removed. And still i cant acess the site i need. i will be calling them first thing in the morning and making a formal complaint too head office which will then cost them £300 its cost me a fortune ringin premium numbers maybe they should spend some of that money on customer service.

The original Barry Line began at Trehafod which is now a leisure/country park called Barry Sidings. The old line then ran to Pontypridd and is now a cycle/walk trail. The line arrived at Pontypridd at the Graig station which was just above the present Pontypridd station and situated in the grounds of Dewi Sant Hospital. Last time I looked the platforms were still there. Straight from this station the line entered a tunnel(bricked up-but all the original stone facade is there) and passed all the way under the Graig mountain before re-emerging in the grounds of the University of Glamorgan. This entrance can still be seen, the track bed forming the refectory car-park.The line then passed behind Bertha and Hilda st where it stopped at a station. The building has been converted into a dwelling and can be seen above the streets quite clearly from the A470. The line then crossed the Llantrisant Rd (A473)just before Devils Bridge.

I went down the steps on the same day that I took this photo, and am preparing an article about the Power Station railway sidings. I didn't know that the Barry Railway had ran nearby as well. I'll have to go back and take another look!

I regularly commute along this stretch of road and some of the effects you get with the early morning sun filtering through the trees is quite spectacular. One of the hidden gems of this stretch of road is the Barry Railway line that lies a few feet down and runs parallel with it. Access can be gained by taking the "the Devil's bridge" steps. This is a footpath that can be accessed by the Water works and takes you down over the trackbed of the Barry Railway then crossing the present Pontypridd-Cardiff Line. At the bottom of the steps, a left turn will take you to the boundary of the Treforest Tin works. A right turn will take you along the riverbank and onto the railway sidings for the old Power station (the present BBC Dr Who studio)

@Harris Hotel: I use a Nikon D200 to take the photos, and Photomatix Pro to convert the shots into HDR images. There isn't enough room in the blog comments to explain the details, so I'll write it up as a blog article.
