Landscapes and Post-Industrial South Wales

Stuart enjoys taking great photos and uncovering the stories behind them.

His main photography project is Merthyr Road - a look at the history and the legacy of the industrialisation of the South Wales Valleys.

If you’re reading this in the RSS feed, my original blog post also includes a Google map showing where this photo was taken. Unfortunately I haven’t managed to get the map to appear yet in the RSS feed, so for now you’ll have to click through to my blog if you want to see the map. Sorry.

Duddo Five Stones

Two of the five stones at Duddo, showing the beautiful weathered texture of the stones, captured basking in the September sun.

I’ll be back on Monday with more shots of Duddo, and check out my Project 25×9 tomorrow for a shot of all five stones with the Cheviots behind.

The Hills Beyond Duddo Five Stones

Ah, the Cheviots. Don’t they look so tempting, so inviting in this shot?

Gate In The Hay

For me personally, there’s no stronger association with being out in the countryside than the sight of a rustic wooden gate half-buried in the undergrowth. There’s just something about the weathered grain of the wood and the sheer lack of sterile conformity of city life that touches something inside. A very pleasant memory on a cold morning like today!

Hay Behind The Fence

Think of summer months , and if you live or work or visit the countryside of Britain, you’re sure to think of haystacks. When we visited Duddo Five Stones back in early September, the surrounding fields were full of rolls of hay, just waiting to be collected and cleared. A cheery memory on a bitterly cold day like today!

Duddo Five Stones

Britain is an ice cube this morning … brrr! To make you feel all nice and warm again, this week’s theme (and next week’s too) is the beautiful stone circle of Duddo Five Stones near Berwick upon Tweed in Northumberland, featuring photos that I took back in September when things weren’t quite so frosty out.

Tent and Lights

Mrs H and I went up to Ludlow’s Medieval Fayre on Saturday, which was held in the grounds of Ludlow Castle. It was bitterly cold, and only got colder as the afternoon went on, but I did manage to take a few photos to share with you this week.
