Planning For A September Return

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 2nd, 2010 in Classes.

Just a note to everyone to say that I’m planning on starting teaching again in September, as before as part of the Vale of Glamorgan’s Adult Learning programme. There’ll be three classes this year: my Improvers class on Tuesdays, and Beginners classes both on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

I’m looking forward to it!

Course Notes Back Online

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 2nd, 2010 in Classes, Teaching.

My apologies to everyone who left comments or wrote to me pointing out that my T’ai Chi class notes were no longer online. I’m afraid I forgot to copy them back in the last time I upgraded the blog software. They’re now back, and available for download once again.

Summer Term Classes Cancelled

Posted by Stuart Herbert on April 20th, 2010 in Classes, News.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to cancel my Summer Term classes, but classes will resume in September 🙂

My knee was damaged in a car accident last summer. I’m going into hospital on Tuesday 27th April for surgery on the knee, which is expected to resolve the problem. Fingers crossed I’ll have the summer to complete my rehabilitation in time for September’s classes and the new academic year.

Tai Chi Classes: Enrolment Dates

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 30th, 2009 in Classes, News.

If you live in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan or the surrounding area and would like to learn Tai Chi, why not come along to one of our enrolment events in September?

  • Saturday 5th September 2009: 10am to 1pm, at Palmerston Adult Education Centre, Barry.
  • Wednesday 9th September 2009: 6:30pm to 8:30pm, at Barry Comprehensive.

I’ll be there to answer any of your questions about Tai Chi or the course, and hopefully to convince you to join our classes. The classes themselves start later in September, and will be on Thursday nights at the Barry Island Community Centre.

Teaching Tuesday Night

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 24th, 2009 in Classes, News.

Just a quick note to tell everyone that there will be a class on Tuesday night (25th August), 7pm, Barry Island Community Centre as previously arranged.

My banged-up knee came through my first full practice on Saturday, so I’m up for testing it for a full two-hour class on Tuesday. Hope to see all my students there!

Back To Classes On Saturday

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 16th, 2009 in Classes, News.

I’m planning to be back down the Knapp on Saturday 22nd August as normal. I’ve got some ligament damage in my knee from the car accident, so I’ve got to take it a bit easy, but I’m looking forward getting back to training 🙂

Tonight’s Class Cancelled

Posted by Stuart Herbert on August 4th, 2009 in Classes, News.

Apologies for the short notice, but I’ve had to cancel tonight’s class at Barry Island Community Centre. My wife and I were in a car accident last week, and unfortunately I’m not able to travel to tonight’s class.

I hope the next Tuesday class (planned for 25th August) will go ahead. I don’t know yet whether or not I’ll be at the Knapp on Saturday morning.

Summer Class Schedule

Posted by Stuart Herbert on July 11th, 2009 in Classes, News.

Now that the academic year is over (congrats to everyone who completed my Tai Chi for Beginners and Tai Chi for Improvers classes, btw!), we’re now on the summer schedule for classes.

  1. Tuesday 14th July, 7pm, Barry Island Community Centre
  2. Tuesday 4th August, 7pm, Barry Island Community Centre
  3. Tuesday 25th August, 7pm, Barry Island Community Centre

All of my students are welcome, regardless of whether you’re returning next academic year or not.

And if you’re curious about Tai Chi and would like to find out what it is and what our classes are like, you’re very welcome to come too!

Tai Chi Form on You Tube

Posted by Stuart Herbert on March 23rd, 2009 in Classes, Video.

If you’d like to see the Tai Chi Chuan form that I teach, here you go 🙂 This is a demonstration video I made recently for my beginners’ class:

Both videos include a detailed commentary of the form – the exact same oral transmission that I use in my weekly classes. I hope you find it interesting!

2008-9 Classes Underway

Posted by Stuart Herbert on October 5th, 2008 in Classes, News.

I have been walking around with a big smile on my face for the last two weeks. All eight students who completed last year’s Tai Chi for Beginners course have returned for the Tai Chi for Improvers course. I’ve really benefited from their help and support whilst working out the structure, content and pacing of the Beginners class, and I’m really looking forward to exploring the ten principles of our Tai Chi form together this academic year.

And if that wasn’t enough to smile about, the next Tai Chi for Beginners course has just kicked off too. Running on a Thursday evening down at the Barry Island Community Centre, I’ve been lucky see a great group of students enrol for this year’s course, and by the New Year we’ll be able to see who has decided that Tai Chi is for them. (Tai Chi classes in Adult Continuing Education understandably suffer quite the drop-out rate).

Now that the classes are back, I’ll be back regularly blogging about Tai Chi and my experiences teaching it. I hope someone finds it useful; I see so little written about teaching Tai Chi.
